Tips for Authors on Preparing for a Radio Interview

Using traditional media outlets to promote your book can be very effective in building an audience. Doing interviews with television shows, radio shows, newspapers, and magazines can be a great way to gain exposure for your book and/or author platform. But, for media interviews to be well-received, an author must be fully prepared. Award-winning journalist and broadcast personality Michelle Martin hosts an evening radio show in Singapore and frequently interviews authors on her show. To prepare for a radio interview, Martin advises authors to do their research so they know what the interviewer and audience will want to learn. And be ready to get personal and detailed, she says. Audiences often want to know the details of your writing process, how you develop characters, and more. While being prepared with a few key talking points is important, spontaneity is also appealing to listeners.
