Inspiration for Cover Art - podcast

Generating book cover design ideas is a collaborative process. Dave Walker, graphic designer and art director at D. Walker Design, discusses how he develops ideas for a book's cover art. For most books, he starts by reading the book proposal to gather information about the book's story, tone, and market. When working with authors who are self-publishing, Walker listens to input from the author, including the author's vision for the cover. When working with a tradition publisher, he often holds collaborative meetings with the publisher's team. Walker encourages authors to ask for opinions from many different people about a cover idea to get a sense of the best direction for the book.
