Author Naomi Brett Rourke on Writing a Short Story for an Anthology

When author Naomi Brett Rourke was asked to contribute to the Weird West anthology Straight Outta Tombstone, she only had two weeks to submit. Inspiration struck while driving to Las Vegas for a conference. Her short story, “Coyote,” is a revenge tale, centered on a Native American mythology piece. Because Rourke teachers Native American oral and written literature and had written a Native American story for another anthology, she had a head start on the research. Rourke enjoys contributing to anthologies because it’s a simple way to build a readership — more and more busy people are turning to short stories for entertainment nowadays.
