Author/Agent Etiquette - podcast

When you are new to the world of publishing, it's important to learn what's expected between author and literary agent. Julie Castiglia, literary agent, discusses the proper etiquette for managing your relationship with your literary agent, including dos and don'ts of communication. She says that to foster a lasting partnership between you and your literary agent, treat your partnership like a relationship. Calling your agent too often is off-putting and you may be seen as a nuisance. Be polite and pleasant in any communication with your agent. Sometimes agents can be rude or unresponsive. Know that some agents are worth waiting for, and some are not. Do your research in advance to make sure a particular agent is someone with whom you want to work.
