Advice for Giving an In-Person Pitch to an Agent or Publisher

Before meeting with an agent or publisher, you have to be prepared and do your research. Author and technical writer Neil V. Young has been able to do that by attending a seminar led by an agent at a writing conference, but researching online can yield the results you need as well. Young advises authors to figure out what the agents or publishers are looking for currently. Maybe there is a certain type of story or character they are hoping to find. If you can do your homework and address those concerns directly in a meeting, you have given yourself a fighting chance – which is, Young says, all you can ask for.
