If pursuing a traditional publishing path, it's important to understand literary agent and publisher expectations. You will typically need to submit a compelling query letter, but in some cases you will also be required to submit a book proposal package. Knowing your word count, genres and subgenres, and how your book is unique or different are very important, as is being able to summarize your story or concept in a compelling way.
