Author Cara C. Putman on the Inspiration for Her Book, "The Enneagram for Writers"

One of the things that award-winning, bestselling author Cara C. Putman loves most about writing is that there is always room for growth. Feedback is a great way to understand if your writing is appealing to readers, and allows authors to pinpoint potential areas for improvement. Reader reviews for her published novels told Putman that her female main characters weren't always resonating with readers as well as she had hoped. This inspired her to dig into her character development a little deeper.

In the process, she discovered that The Enneagram (also known as The Enneagram of Personality) could apply to personality types in fictional characters. Putman tested her theory on some writer friends who found a lot of value in the practice. She then turned her trial worksheet into a book called, The Enneagram for Writers: A Tool to Develop Layered Characters, to help writers create multi-layered characters without shortcutting the process.
