Short fiction can enhance an author’s career, even if he or she is a novelist. Elaine Ash, author, editor, and book coach, explains why authors should also write short form fiction. Short stories can be flash fiction at 600 to 14,000 words, novelettes at 15,000 words, novellas at 30,000 words. A story becomes a novel at 50,000 words or more.
