Mark Lee on His Creative Process for Songwriting vs Writing a Book - podcast

As a musician, Third Day lead guitarist and author Mark Lee has a unique perspective on the writing process. For Lee, writing a song and writing a book demand a similar creative headspace. The key difference between the two is the amount of time required to complete each project. While a songwriting project can take only a few hours, Lee dedicated years to his upcoming memoir Hurt Road. In addition to songwriting, Lee has honed his craft as an active blogger for many years, which provided a big entry point into writing his memoir. By establishing a set schedule for writing and fully immersing himself each day Lee has kept the creativity flowing, no matter the type of project.

Hi there a error when play the audio and I can’t access it

  • I found Mark's advice very helpful because I have a book that I started 15 years ago and I continue to edit it and re-edit and dig a ditch for myself rather than just move on.  I don't feel so awkward towards myself now knowing I am not alone.  I will just write and edit later.

  • thank you today I finely decided that I'm going to write about my life in children book form as fiction. thank you

  • I have to also get over the self-editing habit that comes up every time I start to write. I just gotta remember that the first draft is basically for the trash. But even though it's supposed to be "Trash" my story seems to be coming together very nicely. It's very creative, entertaining and funny. If I do say so myself.
