Tips for Overcoming Writing Blocks and Maintaining Your Focus

Just because you have a passion for writing doesn't mean you have to wake up loving it every day. As Mackerel magazine editor, ghostwriter, and founder of The Creative Voice Carolyn Oei explains, you sometimes have to dig deeper than your feelings to stay focused and motivated. There are times where the adrenaline of being able to write or create will keep you going, while other times you'll have to make the conscious decision to keep pushing yourself forward. When Oei gets blocked creatively, she stops working on the project at hand and does something else that she enjoys, like exercise or cooking. For Oei, trying to force the creativity is counterproductive. She recommends getting to know your own stopping points and accepting that some days will be less creative than others.
