Using Journaling to Establish a Writing Routine and Find Your Voice as an Author - podcast

A journal can be a very valuable tool for finding your voice as a writer, as Third Day lead guitarist and author Mark Lee has discovered in his own journey. The key benefit to journaling, he says, is being able to write freely for yourself. You don't have to worry about others reading the content and what you write doesn't have to be perfect. The goal is to take what's in your head and get it down on paper. Lee advises other writers to follow two practices when journaling: 1) Write first thing in the morning when your head is most clear and 2) Be sure to stick with a dedicated schedule to establish discipline. By revisiting his own journal entries several weeks after they were written, Lee was able to identify the strengths in his writing and repurpose much of his content in his upcoming memoir Hurt Road
