The Importance of Timeline and Good Photography in Publishing a Successful Cookbook

For independent publisher Story Farm, the timeline for a cookbook can range from four months to a few years, depending on the project scope. Per owner Bob Morris, the ideal timeline is about one year. This allows plenty of time for photoshoots and revisions, both of which are incredibly important to the overall quality of the end product. Story Farm prides itself on publishing only the highest quality books with a focus on the travel and culinary industries, both of which require only the best photography to help tell the story. As a former travel magazine editor, Morris has great connections with photographers and tends to hire travel photographers, who excel at shooting both people and settings. This approach has paid off well for Morris as Story Farm recently won the International Association for Culinary Professionals (IACP) award for best photography for the cookbook Foster's Market Favorites, published for award-winning restaurateur Sara Foster.
