Innovative Marketing - podcast

Marketing novels can sometimes feel harder than marketing nonfiction. Author Cindy Jones describes her approach to generating innovative marketing ideas for fiction books. She tries to use the same creativity and genius involved in writing a book to come up with great marketing ideas. For example, she created a marketing tool that ties into something that her book's protagonist loves: tea. Listen to Jones share her experience and you'll be inspired to find creative marketing ideas for your book.

How exciting this is for you. Good luck!
  • Thanks Gypsy for pointing that out, I really appreciate your instructive feedback. You are right. I guess if you are putting the effort into marketing your own idea you'd want to see it last. I will enoy adding to my list and seeing what's best for me. It's been great dicussing this with you. :)

Hi Monique - Those all sound like great ideas! Way to think outside the box. I really like the idea of the temporary tattoos and nail art. Young girls love those things. The only downside I can think of with those is that they will wipe away and then there is no reminder of the book. The pocket notepad and coasters would last longer and keep your book in front of readers minds longer. Whatever you choose, I'm sure it will be great!
  • Hey Gypsy, I do have a few ideas. So my book 'Mura' targets young teenage girls. I wanted to come up with something that would capture their attention. First I came up with a Pocket Notepad that consists of my books name or front cover on it, just something small for jotting ideas/reminders on (useful and great way to market). Small temporary tattoos with symbols that reflect aspects of your book or characters. Tea/Coffee Coasters for use in book cafes. Also if I could I'd design/create my own 'Nail Art Stickers'. A little unusual I know though it would be simple, unique, glamourous and noticeable to young girls. I don't know how successful some of these ideas would be, however just a couple of things I came up with when I was brainstorming. I'm happy to expand if need be, also feel free to let me know what you think :)

Hi Monique - I agree, her idea was wonderful! I am trying not to reference it in the comment so I don't ruin it for others who haven't watched the video...but it IS cool. :) What out of the box techniques have you considered?
