Yes, I agree that you should create as much exposure to your book as possible. After all, you have worked so hard on making this dream come true and you shouldn't allow it to die-out, but promote it as much and often as you can!
It makes sense to out yourself out there as much as possible. also, i had to learn not to be afraid to be myself and do things that have not been done before by authors. I like to have my readers relate to me. Besides giving them a novel to read, a good story to read, I also try to go above and beyond to connect with people on a personal level. Sometimes i try to talk about my novel and then ask how it relates to real life events. Do they have anything they would like to share about their feelings toward my books and if something similar happened in their real lives. Having a full time job and being a new author I would have to say that online marketing is my best option, because it saves me time and I can reach many people around the world. Secrets in the Woods beyond the darkness has been out since last year and the second part to that sequel is being published as we speak right now. So I am very exited! This information above about calling a nearby bookstore and hold a signing event is also a great idea. I will definitely try this one!
I'm new to the scene, but I have been to four events so far and even though I haven't sold many books at the events they have definitely been a learning experience and has expanded my network. My very first event has already invited me to their next years event, so I guess I'm doing something right, although it is quite a drive from home the experience was nice. I basically just finished my book and used FB as my main platform for marketing which has helped get the name out there but most of my sales have been to local friends and family. I feel like I'm on the right track, even though it also feels like I took a dive into the ocean without a life boat or anything, but I keep paddling along and learn as much as I can. I have a huge event coming up next month I will be at and the risk is higher than any of the other events I have already attended, since it is so far away and how it turns out could be nearly make or break. But I am very hopeful for Zombiearth gaining some major traction.
