Media Relations Campaign - video

To clarify, media relations is another term for publicity; both are designed to increase visibility for your book once it hits the market. Shelby Sledge, publicity director at author-focused firm Shelton Interactive, describes here the role of publicist and what authors can expect from a media relations campaign. At a minimum, a press kit containing a press release and author bio will be created, along with an outreach strategy. Initial outreach will be made to long lead outlets, like magazines, which take three to six months to go to press. Next, they will approach news dailies which publish within a few weeks to two months, broadcast media, including fast-moving TV and radio, and online media, which spans the course of the campaign. This layered approach is designed to secure interest in as many channels as possible.
