How Publicists Charge for Their Time - video

When you hire a publicist for your book, it's important to find one that is right for your book and budget. Founder of Bohlsen Group Public Relations, Vicki Bohlsen, describes how book publicists charge for their time and what you can expect working with a PR agency like Bohlsen Group. She explains that PR firms charge for their work in various ways, such as by the hour, the project, or on a retained monthly basis. The Bohlsen Group charges by the project, which defines a start and end date, a plan, a process, and expectations. There are four phases of the project. First is the planning phase, where they listen to the author's goals and ideas. Second, they create the plan. Third, they implement the plan. Throughout the implementation phase they evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and make adjustment based on what's working and what's not. Fourth, they present the measurements and results of the campaign.
