An author’s main goal when using social media should be finding new readers, explains author, editor, and ghostwriter Kathi Macias. Two ways she does this is by hosting contests and asking for reader input for her writing. Anything that can generate interest and excitement about upcoming work is helpful. She’ll also interact with other authors online and has found multiple online writer’s groups. While Macias sees the huge benefits of using social media, she tries to find ways to not spend so much time on it that she ends up neglecting her writing. She’ll check her profiles at the beginning and end of the day, and has her accounts connected so that whatever she posts on one platform will be posted on the others.
