Science fiction and fantasy author William F. Wu enjoys writing for a young adult audience because, as a lifelong reader and writer, he’s interested in writing and publishing the stories he wanted but couldn’t find when he was younger. Now that he is a part of the YA community, Wu has had the chance to speak to young readers in schools and reading groups. He believes young adults are an exciting audience to write for and talk to because they are at an interesting stage of life: old enough to understand new ideas, yet fresh enough to look at something in a unique way. That’s why he writes his YA characters in a similar way. The characters are usually around the same age as the readers, open-minded, and not confined by old ideas.
