Spiritual Writing: Write Because You Have To - video

Author and agent Bill Gladstone shares his advice for authors writing spiritual books. He recommends that if you are an author with a true and important spiritual message, write and publish because it needs to be communicated—don't focus on the success it might have. In some ways, spirituality is like any other field. If you want people to listen to your message, you need to become an expert share your message through workshops and speaking events. The difference is that if you look at the bestselling authors of books on spirituality, few of them intentionally set out to become financially successful through their writing. They wrote because they felt they had to. So write something with real value. Write something that’s important to you, and share it with as many people as you can. And if it becomes a bestseller, that’s wonderful; but even if it doesn’t, you’ve fulfilled your purpose in writing the book.

  • I have been very timid about submitting my writings however it is a every pressing issue on my heart.  I too look forward to sending out a message. Who knows what the rewards may be.

  • Thank you, Just what I needed to continue in my calling to write a spiritual book!

  • My relatable part of this interview was how he said sometimes it is unexpected. This is exactly what I am going thru. I currently have a blog about my spiritual connection with a celebrity that passed 3 years ago. Am considering turning it into a book but had no idea this would happen for me. I will continue to write and see where this journey goes!

  • I agree! My Upcoming book "Roots & Wings" will be about a Journey through life that was built on our Ancestors (Spiritual & Physical) Leaders that broke Civil Rights Movements, Dreamed Dreams, and was Blessed Abundantly! Also the Wings will exemplify the Holy Spirit that I live and enjoy a daily relationship through Jesus Christ! I am excited about this book because it will be real (practical, physical, emotional as well as spiritual). Most Importantly Spiritual! God Bless You Bill and Thank You for your input! Go with the flow!!!
  • Thanks. My first book "Who Dat - Lagniappe!" is of utmost importance to me! It is my testimony about how God revealed Himself to me. Sales or royalties weren't motivations but sharing with others was and still is. Each month a copies are given to libraries or individuals. I have a page on Facebook and Twitter for this.
