Spiritual Writing: Write Because You Have To - video

Author and agent Bill Gladstone shares his advice for authors writing spiritual books. He recommends that if you are an author with a true and important spiritual message, write and publish because it needs to be communicated—don't focus on the success it might have. In some ways, spirituality is like any other field. If you want people to listen to your message, you need to become an expert share your message through workshops and speaking events. The difference is that if you look at the bestselling authors of books on spirituality, few of them intentionally set out to become financially successful through their writing. They wrote because they felt they had to. So write something with real value. Write something that’s important to you, and share it with as many people as you can. And if it becomes a bestseller, that’s wonderful; but even if it doesn’t, you’ve fulfilled your purpose in writing the book.

  • Your words are very inspirational. I write spiritual poetry with the intent to sow seeds of encouragement in the ground of others. I just write, it isn't about making millions, as much as it is about sharing the gift that the Creator has given me. Be blessed.
  • Anne Vanderpol. I have just had my first book published and have been wondering why there was serious conflict within.I will do what I can to sell my book within my personal beliefs and boundaries, but will relax and do even more to write and share my messages from the heart and not from the concept of becoming famous in any way. Thanks for the simple yet powerful encouragement.Bless you
  • This is very good advice. I like to say I write from my heart, from the core of my being. It comes out of me and, yes, I truly feel compelled to write.
  • I am writing a novel which has spirituality at the heart of the story. It is a three world fantasy and deals with the duality of good and evil, light and dark. I was brought up in a staunch Christian community in the north of Scotland, I often wondered why there were no adventure stories dealing with a spiritual afterlife - I left organised religion long ago and turned to the wonders of creation itself, that is why I have been driven to write a book to try and deliver a message of hope and joy through fantasy and adventure.

Lots of information and tips in your piece. I wrote my children's book without any experience at all about publishing because I thought I needed to. As a christian, I felt the urge to write my book - "My Clean Teeth by LIzB." in order to share my knowledge with the hope that this book can actually save lives. Thank you for sharing.
